Learn how to create simple percentage and flat discounts in your WooCommerce store with Discount Rules for WooCommerce

Introduction :

Product Adjustment discount type in Discount Rules for WooCommerce plugin refers to a type of discount that is applied to a specific product or group of products.
This guide will help you in creating simple discounts like store-wide discounts for your WooCommerce store.


The following are some of the examples to implement Product Adjustment rule in your WooCommerce store.

  • Buy any products and get store-wide 20% discount.

  • Get $5 discounts on all products on the store.

  • Buy products from Category A and receive 30% discount.

Let us get started,

Make sure you have already installed and activated the Discount Rules plugin. Please note that some of the features explained in the examples are available only in the PRO version.

Creating a Discount Rule

Example 1 : Buy any products and get store-wide 20% discount.

In this example, we'll create 20% discount store-wide and when any of the products added to the cart discount would be applied automatically for all the products.

  • Go to WordPress dashboard -> WooCommerce -> Discount Rules -> Click on “Add New Rule” button.

  • Choose “Product Adjustment” as the Discount type.

Here is the screenshot of the rule configuration that follows,

Filter Options :
In the filter options, Choose "All products"


In the PRO version, you have the option to choose more filter options: specific products / categories / attributes / tags / sku. Example: If you would like to offer a discount only for selected products or categories or tags, then these specific filters will be helpful.

In this example, we are going to offer 20% store wide discount across the store. So we have chosen the "All Products" option.

Under Discount Options, Choose "Percentage discount" and enter the value as 20.

Now save and publish the rule.

When customers shop at your store, they will get a 20% discount on all the products in the store.

Here is the screenshot of the cart page showing an example :

NOTE: The discount is adjusted in the product price. You will also see the discounted price and the strike-out original price in the product pages as well.

Let's move one to a few more discount examples.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The following two examples require the Discount Rules PRO version

Example 2: Get $5 discounts on all products on the store.

In this example, we'll create $5 fixed discount store-wide and when any of the products added to the cart discount would be applied automatically for all the products.

  • Go to WordPress dashboard -> WooCommerce -> Discount Rules -> Click on “Add New Rule” button.

  • Choose “Product Adjustment” as the Discount type.

In the filter options, Choose "All products"

Example 3 : Buy products from Category A and receive 30% discount.

In this example, we'll create 30% discount for specific category and when any of the products from the specific category to the cart discount would be applied automatically for the products under the specific category.

  • Go to WordPress dashboard -> WooCommerce -> Discount Rules -> Click on “Add New Rule” button.

  • Choose “Product Adjustment” as the Discount type.

Here is the screenshot of the rule configuration that follows,

Filter Section :

Choose "Category" in the "Filter" section because customers get discounts only from a particular category. Choose the “Hoodies” category in the search option. (You can also have other categories or products)

In this example, we are going to offer 30% discount for particular Category.

Under Discount Options, Choose "Percentage discount" and enter the value as 30.

Now save and publish the rule.

When customers shop at your store, they will get a 30% discount on the products under "Hoodies" category in the store.

Additional Conditions in Product Adjustments :

The discount rules plugin allows you to set additional conditions to have a better control over the discount scenario.

For example: You can limit the discount to a particular user role.

There are a number of conditions such as subtotal, user roles, purchase history, shipping address, customers, date and time, items in the cart, products, product category, tags, sku are available.

These are purely optional. Use them only when required.
