Introduction:

A cart quantity/ Item quantity based discount is a feature provided by the Discount Rules for WooCommerce plugin, allowing discounts based on the total quantity of items in a customer's shopping cart.

For example, with the plugin, if a customer buys more than 5 T-shirts, they can receive a 10% discount.

This incentivizes larger purchases by offering discounted prices or benefits based on cart quantity and this type of discount also boosts order value and customer satisfaction, encouraging customers to buy more.

Examples scenarios of setting up discounts based on cart quantities:

  • Store-wide 15% off when customers buy more than 10 items in their cart.

  • Buy 3 or more products from a specific category “Electronics” and get a 20% discount on those items.

  • Free shipping on orders with a cart quantity of 8 or more items.

To create rules with Item Quantity conditions, you need to have the Discount Rules PRO plugin installed and activated. Purchase the PRO version by clicking on the button below.

Now, let's explore each example scenario in detail.

Example 1: Store-wide 15% off when customers buy more than 10 items in their cart

In this scenario, if customers choose to purchase at least 10 quantities of any items available in the store, they will be eligible for a 15% discount to all products throughout the store.

To create this rule, follow these steps

Creating a Discount Rule:

  • Go to WordPress dashboard -> Woocommerce -> Woo Discount Rules -> Click on “Add New Rule” button

  • Select the discount types as “Product Adjustment”

Then configure the discount rule as seen in the below screenshot:

Details of configurations are:

  • Choose "All Products" (storewide) from the filter options. You also have options like specific Categories, selected Products, Attributes, Tags, Sku’s and so on… You can choose the option depending upon your requirement.

  • Set the discount type to a 15% percentage discount. You also have options to choose Fixed discount or Fixed price per item

  • Include “Item Quantity” as additional condition, enter the value as 10

  • Set How to calculate the cart quantity as -> Count all items in cart

  • Click on “SAVE” once we have successfully created the rule.

Now, customers who purchase a minimum of 10 quantities/ products, will get 15% off on all products in store.
