Introduction:
"Choose how discount rules should work" is a setting in the Discount Rules for Woocommerce plugin that allows you to define how discount rules and WooCommerce coupons interact on your website.
The purpose of this setting is to give site owners control over whether both discount rules and coupons can be applied together, or if any one should take priority over the other.
This user guide explains the setting “Choose how discount rules should work” and what are the options available in it in detail.
Make sure you have already installed and activated the Discount Rules plugin. Please note that some of the features explained in the examples are available only in the PRO version.
Do More with the PRO Version.
Let’s get started,
To choose the setting:
Go to WordPress dashboard -> WooCommerce -> Discount Rules -> Settings
You can find the setting “Choose how discount rules should work”
Here is a screenshot showing the settings tab and the corresponding setting:
With the given setting, if both a discount rule and a coupon are enabled on the site, we can choose to prevent coupons from being applied to the cart when a discount is already applied, or vice versa.
The setting offers three options:
Let both coupons and discount rules run together : This option enables the use of both discount rules and coupons together.
Disable the coupons (discount rules will work) : With this option, third-party coupons will be restricted, and only the discount rules will be applied.
Disable the discount rules (coupons will work) : By selecting this option, only third-party coupons/ Woocommerce coupons will be applied, and any discounts created from our plugin will not be considered.
You can choose the most suitable option from the available three based on your specific requirements.
Frequently asked question:
Will coupons created using the Discount Rules for WooCommerce plugin be affected by this setting?
No, coupons created with our plugin will not be influenced by the above setting. These coupons will ignore the setting mentioned.
For instance, let's consider a scenario where I offer a store-wide 10% discount using the coupon code "SUMMER" (created under Additional Condition -> Coupons -> Create your own coupon -> SUMMER).
Here is a screenshot displaying the configuration of the store-wide 10% off rule:
Since the "SUMMER" coupon is not a third-party coupon, the setting "Choose how discount rules should work" will not be applicable to these types of rules/coupons.
Note:
In this setting, "coupons" refer to the ones created using WooCommerce or other third-party plugins, and not the coupons generated within the Discount Rules for WooCommerce plugin (create your own coupon).
