Regular price and sale price are pricing terms used in WooCommerce.

  • Regular price : Standard or non-discounted price of a product

  • Sale price : Sale price is a lower price than the regular price that is offered for a limited time.

You can choose which price the discount should apply - either the regular price of the product or the sale price set by WooCommerce (on-sale product). This helps to attract customers and increase sales.

For example, if a shirt's regular price is $20 and its sale price is $15, a 10% discount applied to the regular price would make it $18, while a 10% discount applied to the sale price would make it $13.50.

In this document let us see how our discount system works with the regular and sale prices of a product in detail.

This is a screenshot of the WooCommerce product price.

Therefore, regular price is $20 and the sale price is $15.

Our Free Pack is perfect for setting regular or sale prices, but if you're looking for more advanced features, our PRO pack has got you covered. Don't miss out on the amazing options it offers!

To choose whether the discount should be applied from Regular/ Sale Price

Go to Wordpress backend -> WooCommerce -> Discount Rules -> Settings -> “General”

  1. Look for the option "Calculate discount from".

  2. Choose either the “Sale price” or “Regular price” from the drop-down menu.

Note:

  • If the sale price is not set for a product, then the regular price will be taken into consideration for discount calculation.

  • If you are trying to apply discounts when using plugins like add ons and bundle, make sure to apply discounts from the sale price.

Here's an example of how the above setting works:

Example : Let's take a bag product, which has Regular price as ($20) and Sale Price as ($15). When you keep a Fixed discount ($10), let's look at how it will be applied based on the settings.

Woocommerce price:

Discount Rule set up:

Go to Your WordPress dashboard -> Woocommerce -> Discount Rules -> Add New Rule.

To create a rule with a fixed discount on a product, go to the rule page, add the rule name, select "Product Adjustment" from the discount type menu, add the product, set the discount to Fixed discount $10 and test it with both sale and regular price settings.

When kept at Regular Price:

The regular price of the product is $20, and the sale price is $15, when you keep it as the "Regular price" on the settings page.

So, the fixed discount of $10 is applied to the regular price of $20, and gives the subtotal as $10.

When kept at Sale Price:

The regular price of the product is $20, and the sale price is $15, when kept as the "Sale price" on the settings page.

So, the fixed discount of $10 is applied to the sale price of $15, and gives the subtotal as $5.
